Balsam Fir
The Balsam Fir's scientific name is the Abies balsamea. It is a native evergreen tree. The size will range from a small to medium sized tree. It will grow to be anywhere from 40 to 80 feet tall. Their needles are 1 1/2 inches long. They are a dark green above and are whitened below. The Balsam Fir's bark is thin, smooth, and has a grayish color to it. The roots rarely grow any deeper than 30 inches. They have a wide base that ends in a narrow top. It grows to be a maximum of 200 years old. The Balsam fir is the least fire resistant evergreen tree in North America, and its seeds are destroyed by fire.

The Black Spruce's scientific name is the Picea mariana. It is a tall tree. They can grow to be up to 25 meters tall. As the tree ages the crown gets more like a spike. Its needles are four sided and are sharp. The half inch needles are blue-green, short, and pointed. The tree's bark is gray-brown. The Black Spruce has pine cones.

The Douglas-fir's scientific name is the Pseudotsuga. This tree is very big. It can grow to be 40 to 60 feet tall and 15 to 25 feet wide. Their wood is used for lumber, timber, and plywood because it is very hard, stiff, and durable.

It will peel off in stringy strips. It can be used to make a reddish dye.

The Jack Pine's scientific name is Pinus banksiana. It grows to be around 27 meters tall. Their bark is a reddish-brown and flat. When the tree ages the bark turns more gray. This tree has needles instead of leaves. They are a reddish color. The Jack Pine has pine cones. They produce its seeds. The bark of this tree is thin and peels off into horizontal layers which separate into sheets that are kind of like paper. These trees can grow in pairs or clusters.

It has branches that a slightly tilted so it looks like a pyramid. They have thin twigs that are a kind of glossy yellow to green color. The Siberian Spruce has pine needles and pine cones. If the pine cones are immature they are a purple color.

This tree's wood is a light brownish color. It is farely light, soft, and weak. It's leaves and bark are either a silvery white or white color. These trees grow very fast. They are often planted as shade trees.
